Thank-you for visiting Bees at Work. My name is Kerry and I am a third-generation beekeeper (apiarist) who has been fascinated by every aspect of bees from a very young age.  I continue to learn from bees.

My father, and his father, kept bees in a semi-commercial capacity. As a young girl they would tell me stories about bees and their entertaining exploits with bees. Their stories and their knowledge captured my imagination and stoked my interest in bees and the natural world.

There is evidence that suggests humans have been keeping bees for at least 8,000 years.  Perhaps no wonder, when you appreciate the numerous benefits to be had both physically and mentally.

This is a pastime that must be taken seriously as you are caring for living animals. It is also a pastime that is well and truly rewarded for your interest and care.

Following a career working in demanding time-critical roles, my involvement with bees has shown me that to be productive in a less intense and less competitive way reaps tremendous benefit. It is a healthier way of life. The bees throw a spotlight on everything that is around us – frequently the small things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

I have become acutely aware of the critical role that bees play in the food-chain. I am troubled by the plight of bees – globally. My decision to keep a bee-hive is well founded and I truly appreciate the trust that bees place in my ability to provide them with a safe and secure home.

I am fortunate to be able to share my knowledge with other like-minded people. My clients are people who are busy, yet they want to provide a home for bees and learn more about their environment by observing bee behaviour.

As a beekeeper in Australia, you must ensure that you practice good bee-husbandry and observe appropriate bee biosecurity practices to ensure the health of your bees locally and nationally.

We can guide you through all aspects of beekeeping.
